Why Wait Till January 1st, When You Can Start Today!!!

It's September and unfortunately, that means the summer is coming to an end. As much as we love the summer,  one thing I know for sure is it derails some of our health and fitness goals. In the summer, we tend to have more events such as weddings, happy hours and vacations which increase our opportunities for less than optimal eating and drinking choices. The good news is, September is the perfect time to get back on track.

I'm sure at the beginning of the year, we had some goals that we wanted to accomplish and at this time of the year, some of them might have slipped through the cracks. I'm here to assure you it's not too late to pick those goals back up. Why wait till the new year to do what you can start now. No point waiting 4 months just to repeat the same cycle when you can break the cycle now. Imagine where you will be by January 1st if you start now. if your goal is to lose weight, you can be down 10 - 20 lbs by then.

Just like any new season, the start of fall also symbolizes a new beginning. The beauty of September resolutions is we don't have to wait for a specific date, we can just jump right in.

In the OwnPace gym, I have a sign that says Dream crossed off and then says DO. The reason behind this is, its not enough to just have goals, we must put a plan of action together and I'm going to guide you through that.

Step 1: Write your goal

Step 2: Write why this is goals is important to you. Here is where you can use the 5 whys approach to help you drill down to the core reason.

For example,

Goal: I want to lose 20 pounds.

The Five Whys

  1. Why? Because I want to be healthier.

  2. Why? Because I don't like where I am now.

  3. Why? Because I feel horrible.

  4. Why? Because I know I'm harming myself.

  5. Why? Because if I keep going this direction, I'm shaving years off my life.

By the time you get to about the 5th Why, you start to see the real reason you have this goal.

Step 3: Write a plan for what to do when life happens and you get a little off track. Sticking yo goals is not easy, so this is where we make an agreement with ourselves on what to do when things go bad. This is all about accountability.

There's no better time than September to make new resolutions. And now you know the steps to build an unbreakable plan:

Get to the heart of "why" your goal matters.

Plan what you'll do when things get tough.

So what will you do today to make September the month that changes everything? In fact send me your plan and I'll personally follow up with you in 30 days to see how you're doing. I read every email and want to hear from you.
